An historic bed and breakfast inn

overlooking Penobscot Bay in midcoast Maine

Nestled on a knoll overlooking Penobscot Bay, 1794 Watchtide...by the Sea offers some of the finest accommodations in coastal Maine ~ beautifully redecorated guest rooms with private baths, tasteful furnishings and accessories, and the sense of the past that only a 200-year-old home can convey.  An award-winning bed and breakfast on nearly four landscaped acres, the inn is less than an hour's drive from Rockland, Camden, Bangor, Deer Isle, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park ~ the perfect location from which to see everything from Pemaquid Point to Schoodic Point in easy day trips.

Watchtide invites you to experience the unhurried lifestyle along the midcoast of Maine. Each morning you'll awaken to a superb, creative multi-course breakfast served on our large enclosed sunporch as as you watch a spectacular sunrise over the glistening waters of the bay.  Spend your day relaxing on the sunporch or in our guest lounge, reading in our library, or strolling and birdwatching in our flowering gardens.  Venture out for sightseeing, visiting the many interesting galleries, museums, antique shops, parks and historic sights along the coast road, or sailing on one of America's most attractive waterways.  We look forward to making your stay a memorable one that will bring you back again and again.

This historic 18th century home became well known in the early 20th century as the College Club Inn, hosting such notables as Eleanor Roosevelt who made regular visits with her entourage. The inn was on the route to Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada where the Roosevelt family spent their summers.
